Banking on Wellness: ISPA Offers a Sneak Peak at Indulgence at 19th century bank venue in NYC8/9/2017 ![]() One can never have enough essential oils, bath salts, muscle rubs and relaxing eye masks to ensure one's chakra is aligned and resplendent. This Tuesday, New York's journalists filed in one by one to an old 19th century bank refreshed and restored as a multi-spa venue for the NY ISPA meeting--a sort of martinis and margaritas version of a Tupperware party for spa-goers. Media professionals left replenished from the spread of healthy food, live spa treatment demonstrations, and the opportunity to both network as well as learn about the latest trends from knowledgeable sponsors. According to industry experts, the global wellness economy reached $3.7 trillion in 2016. From one perspective, that can be understood. The senses will do back flips when they come face-to-face with the aromatherapy angels, but some of the skin rejuvenation treatments might quiver a few skittish knees. One such treatment, we were told, "sand blasts" the top layer of skin, but leaves it exfoliated, clean, and new. Though the first image that came to mind was of a snake shedding its skin between two jagged rocks, the sponsors were genuine and enthusiastic about their products. - the editors
